Speaker 1
Welcome everyone to yet another episode of Tim Talks, and I will tell you that this one is special. You know, as we, dive in, we always say no one smarter than everyone. Let's get better together. And and car now has given me a platform, to obviously talk about the automotive space, obviously to hopefully inspired leaders across the country as we bring in the best of the best, the top 1% of their craft.
00;00;34;25 - 00;01;01;18
Speaker 1
I will tell you that I was so encouraged just a couple weeks ago, as I am going to, I have the privilege to introduce you to the next generation of automotive leaders. I had the privilege of speaking twice to the, automotive class, the automotive chair, my friend LG at Northwood University, who I am proudly displaying here.
00;01;01;20 - 00;01;27;21
Speaker 1
And listen, some times, you know, you can you can write all your notes and you can, you know, you can set out and I have my quiet time in the morning and I'm like, I'm going. I hopefully, you know, God, allow me to inspire others. But I tell you, I left encouraged by what's coming up in this industry and who's getting ready to take the reins and inspired.
00;01;27;21 - 00;01;59;13
Speaker 1
And I thought it only suiting that we introduced that. I, have the privilege and honor to introduce you just a little bit of what I saw, at Northwood University. First of all, I want to introduce LG, who's become a dear friend of mine. You know, you hear good news and bad news about teachers and professors, but I can tell you firsthand at the at the dinners and lunches that we've had together, he is a human being that cares about his students.
00;01;59;13 - 00;02;21;00
Speaker 1
He cares about people. He cares about his industry. And, quite frankly, decades and decades in the automotive space, bringing that knowledge to that university. So, so, LG, let me just, just introduce, the Tim Talk viewers to you just a little bit about yourself and, Northwood University.
00;02;21;03 - 00;02;46;04
Speaker 2
I appreciate the term. Thank you very much. It's a privilege and a blessing to be here today. Hello. Podcast listeners and viewers on the LG. Brian, I have the wonderful opportunity to be at Northwood University and truly our whole department, be the industry chair. I have, you know, 42 years now since I graduated college.
00;02;46;04 - 00;03;25;13
Speaker 2
Some of my students are graduating, in 1983. For me, I started the new, I believe, history, the most significant piece, spent ten years in retail and 22 years with General Motors. But the the the for the ultimate for the all time has been, just the, the last 14 years with a Northwood University and see the future leaders of this great industry and our future leaders really in, those industry experts and thought leaders who inspire them of what can be as they step out into this industry.
00;03;25;13 - 00;03;47;06
Speaker 2
And so, I think Tim has, so both of, I want to say, another year that Tim represents, the best of the best coming in from of students for inspiring them. But for hear him say he was inspired. I know that my students, are showing him, but they show me every day.
00;03;47;09 - 00;04;18;10
Speaker 1
Now that that's amazing. And I'm encouraged it. And I know the students do this 15,500 times a year, but starting to your left, I believe, in the beautiful green sweatshirt. Sweater, shirt. If you could just introduce yourself and then we'll go all the way. All the way through. I want to get the listeners and viewers, if they happen to be, in front of a computer, get to know you and what you are, getting ready to do what you're inspired to do.
00;04;18;12 - 00;04;36;15
Speaker 3
Course. Hello. My name is Brooke Englehart. I am a fourth year or senior here at North Bend University. Soon to be graduating, and I am looking forward to post-grad working for me after work at suppliers as their manager of counselors and engagement.
00;04;36;17 - 00;04;39;07
Speaker 1
Awesome. And what was that company name?
00;04;39;09 - 00;04;41;25
Speaker 3
I mean, my aftermarket suppliers.
00;04;41;27 - 00;04;45;11
Speaker 1
Awesome, awesome. Thank you. Brooke.
00;04;45;13 - 00;05;09;10
Speaker 2
All right. Good morning to, my name is Chase. I'm a sophomore here studying automotive marketing and management. And so I've had the privilege of having healthiest, life professor classes here. And, I work for the Paczki Corporation currently for the past five years. And I'm going back to work for them again this summer, for my internship and, hopefully pursue a career with them when I graduate.
00;05;09;13 - 00;05;31;13
Speaker 1
Amazing. I just left the, in fact, shout out to Brian Pash. The Digital Marketing Strategies conference, one of the best conferences in the country. And I had the privilege, multiple times to sit at the same table. I think we were missing one. But most of the marketing directors for Penske and just not only brilliant, but just incredible human beings.
00;05;31;15 - 00;05;33;28
Speaker 1
Great. Awesome. Next.
00;05;34;00 - 00;05;49;11
Speaker 3
Hi. I'm Julia. It's been my third year here at North City University and I'm studying automotive marketing manager was a modern finance. And this summer I'm looking forward to interning with or.
00;05;49;13 - 00;06;06;01
Speaker 1
Awesome. So will you be going to, will you be going to, Michigan? I mean, you're obviously in Michigan now. I was just there. I'm not that stupid, but. Yes. Will you be will you be there at the Home Office? As was my question. Awesome.
00;06;06;03 - 00;06;08;24
Speaker 3
I love there. Looking forward to it.
00;06;08;27 - 00;06;10;23
Speaker 1
Awesome. Okay.
00;06;10;25 - 00;06;34;19
Speaker 3
Yeah. And then good morning everyone and good morning to I'm Katrina Nash. I'm a third year as well. Lack of university studying automotive marketing management. And one of the wonderful unique things about Northwood is they have this BBA, MBA track, where you can, you know, leave two degrees and four years. So you get your undergraduate degree and then your master's here.
00;06;34;22 - 00;06;54;15
Speaker 3
Laughs. You're supposed to hop on that. So I'll be walking on graduation with my undergraduate degree this Saturday. And then next year I'll be back for a master's degree. Northwood is super unique in terms of the different leadership opportunities and really creating a face for yourself at such a young age. At an early point in your career.
00;06;54;17 - 00;07;09;16
Speaker 3
So I the privilege of being the general chair for the arts, you are known for, it'll be the 62nd lot happening in September. And, I'm excited, you know, how to talk more about it when we get into leadership and those opportunities that we have. Yeah, that's good.
00;07;09;19 - 00;07;37;21
Speaker 1
That's amazing. You know, guys, it's funny, I, I had the privilege. Brian asked me to. They have a, this is some of the things I love about the passions at DMC. They have a Sunday because it's on Sunday morning. And, you know, regardless, you're he gives a platform for a Sunday morning, service. And he asked me to give that talk and, and, and I gave the story of you guys and I talked about Northwood University.
00;07;37;21 - 00;07;56;25
Speaker 1
And literally there was a lady who was about my age who came up to me after, and she's like, I can't believe you talked about Northwood University. I graduated there so many years ago. It's it's just so it was it was so cool to see, you guys are everywhere. You're everywhere. You it's in this space. It's so cool.
00;07;57;01 - 00;07;58;18
Speaker 1
Okay. Yes, sir.
00;07;58;20 - 00;08;21;23
Speaker 2
Next. Well, then, thanks for having us on. And. Hello, everybody that's tuned in. My name is Kyle Kubek. My senior year. I don't think university and I have the pleasure of, go through all my classes in years. These lovely people sitting here right next to me, I'll be walking across the stage, next week now for graduation with, two of these individuals as well.
00;08;21;26 - 00;08;45;04
Speaker 2
I've seen myself and experienced storyteller. I've committed to the automotive industry. I'm looking to bring my, you know, my value, my skills to the dealerships because I will learn everything and some other, recently, the other day, I just want to say, across from the table, from somebody looking that either buy a car, make a deal, and just have them know that I'm the only person in the room that they should be sitting across from.
00;08;45;08 - 00;09;05;20
Speaker 2
I know everything that they need to know. So that's my hope. That's what I will provide. I'm proud of that. I've also been on the, show board with every single one of the people that have next to me. We did some pretty amazing stuff here. And, gosh, what all centered around personal responsibility, discipline, accountability and just some really awesome values and beliefs.
00;09;05;20 - 00;09;09;00
Speaker 2
So thank you so much for having this. I can't wait to talk.
00;09;09;02 - 00;09;13;26
Speaker 1
So so, Kyle, if I was to coach you on on in. What is it.
00;09;13;28 - 00;09;14;24
Speaker 2
Darling?
00;09;14;26 - 00;09;35;05
Speaker 1
Colin. Sorry, sorry sorry sorry. I wrote down Kyle. Colin. So, Colin, if I was to coach you on anything, I think you need to work on your energy a little bit. And your enthusiasm and and the way you embrace the crowd. You know, Colin, let's just start with you. What do you, Do you have plans after graduation?
00;09;35;05 - 00;09;56;04
Speaker 1
What is your vision? What is your. You said you want to sit down, work a deal? Like, what is your vision? What do you want to do when you think about, you know, look, we always, And I think I mentioned something very similar. And all this goes back to leadership because even you sitting there right now, you're a leader, number one, you're the leader of yourself.
00;09;56;10 - 00;10;12;04
Speaker 1
Right? We talked about starting the day with gratitude. We start to talked about casting a vision. But at the same time, when you're when you're sitting there and nobody's around and the cameras aren't on and LG is not in the class and you're at your dorm room or wherever you are, lay your head. You think about, man, it would be great.
00;10;12;06 - 00;10;16;22
Speaker 1
It like, what does that look like for you?
00;10;16;24 - 00;10;36;21
Speaker 2
That's a really great question. And, I think you're asking the right guy because I have a lot of dreams and ideas. For sure. When we, when we talk about post-grad options, I'm actually really pleased to announce that I just accepted, an opportunity yesterday to work with Hendrick Automotive, North Carolina, starting this summer.
00;10;36;24 - 00;10;55;29
Speaker 2
Super excited about it. It's going to be a blast. That management training program that I'm all over. Can't wait to get started with that. And know, like, looking into the future. I've got so many plans. I'm thinking that, you know, every five, ten, 15 years. And that made me get to management. I'm a lead. I'm not train people.
00;10;56;02 - 00;11;18;10
Speaker 2
I have a big thing for youth department. I've worked with kids that that summer camps. I just want to instill knowledge and wisdom and and help bring people up. And, on top of that, you know, there's there's so much you can do this. There's such an incredible industry, so many opportunities. I wouldn't mind being, a speaker someday or some kind of, some kind of teacher in some capacity.
00;11;18;14 - 00;11;37;22
Speaker 2
I'd love for without these first steps. Because he's, a role out to me. As much as, you know, he says I am the eldest. I still think he's the king supreme on top of that. But, you know, someday, maybe I need the career I'm going to be that you have the Detroit Pistons. Maybe I'll go into dealerships and acquisitions.
00;11;37;24 - 00;11;55;14
Speaker 2
I got a lot of thoughts, but I just want to make sure that I keep in mind that, you know, a rookie forever. And on top of that, if I'm going to keep my mindset, I got to remember that out of Buffalo heading into a storm. Right. And out of the house, I to be right away from the storm because they, you know, they're afraid of it.
00;11;55;15 - 00;12;10;09
Speaker 2
They got to get away from it. But a buffalo knows that you run through the storm, right? You run through it, you'll stay in it for less time. At the same time, you get out on the other end sooner. So that's kind of mentality that I keep and staying that rookie forever. I think I'll, I'll do some pretty good things.
00;12;10;09 - 00;12;11;24
Speaker 2
So yeah.
00;12;11;27 - 00;12;33;15
Speaker 1
Wow. I think Hendrick's getting a good win. LG that, you know, that's, that's great. Let's listen life. You know, I gave the story of, Ben Carson when we were there talking about your brain. You know, you are what you think you are, right? I mean, they they wrote in a book a long time ago be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
00;12;33;15 - 00;13;02;11
Speaker 1
And when your mind set right every day, there is nothing, nothing, nothing you cannot do. Mrs. ness. Mrs. ness, the world traveler. Mrs. ness. So. So, you did pop up on a couple feeds. Tell us a little bit about. You know, I've seen you doing some work. I think, with with Ted and what he's doing, you know, and I want to talk about the auto show, just a little bit, and then tell us.
00;13;02;11 - 00;13;18;19
Speaker 1
Tell, you know, others what? You and I know it's automotive marketing. I think you're already on your way, but but let's start talking about what you've already. What you're already doing now as, even before you've graduated.
00;13;18;21 - 00;13;36;01
Speaker 3
Yeah. Of course. You mentioned world travel. I, we recently got back from Sri Lanka. For those of you that have been active on LinkedIn and, you know, connect with, you know, any of us that know what else are you possible out of that? So, Nice work. One of the things we find getting into is a lot of experiential learning.
00;13;36;04 - 00;13;59;09
Speaker 3
And one of those experiences recently was going to Sri Lanka and doing an automotive OEM simulation, various manufacturing vehicles, that it was a lot of innovation on the market, research, everything like that to create the best possible brand. And, you know, that's driven by values and what we stand for and kind of what we want to produce in the market, we want to attack.
00;13;59;09 - 00;14;26;06
Speaker 3
So that was wonderful in terms of we're all traveling in kind of what we're going to involve them at last one and we have the auto show, as an automotive marketing and management major, this is a great opportunity to kind of work on a large project that not only does this, you know, we're learning in the classroom of being able to put it into apply in terms of leadership skills, even sales and everything like that, or targeted for sponsorships and selling dealers, the sign and everything like that.
00;14;26;06 - 00;14;55;03
Speaker 3
You know, we're we're getting these opportunities to put on this auto show where we have over $60 million worth of assets on canvas that we get, free to the public to attend. And, we just display every single car brand. So getting to do that and getting to work with that amazing team, on that project is not only, you know, so, special and, you know, learning new, valuable skills, but also meeting and learning about new people and building a network of connections so you can have, spread opportunities.
00;14;55;04 - 00;15;15;05
Speaker 3
I know I was juggling for a long time. What does he want to do post-grad? Who does he want to work for? And it's not because he can't find anyone. It's because I had lunch with him and he was all over flooded with options, and he landed in an amazing place. And I know he's going to do amazing things, just as one example of a scholar here at Northwood.
00;15;15;07 - 00;15;19;10
Speaker 1
So yeah, that is amazing. What are the dates? What is the date of the auto show?
00;15;19;12 - 00;15;36;09
Speaker 3
Yeah, it's September 19th through the 21st usually as well first week of October. But it'll be this stuff this year, which is nice in terms of our Michigan weather. So we'll get the last bit of summer and, hoping for hoping for the, the nice, the, the life of the for the weekend.
00;15;36;11 - 00;16;01;00
Speaker 1
Yeah. I'm going to have to definitely put that down on my calendar. LG don't let me forget. We're going to have to figure something out there. Monica. Amazing. Katrina. Thank you. Pretty exciting stuff as, the opportunities, you know, you know, the cool thing about Northwood, one of the, one of the cool things, as I was thinking about it, you know, and my son just graduated from RSU, and he's killing it, and he's doing a really good job.
00;16;01;00 - 00;16;27;02
Speaker 1
But but, you know, you have so many people that have walked through the minefield, you know, you might have and I'm not being ugly, but at other universities, people that haven't been in the market for three decades or done what they're teaching on or never even sold a car or or done anything. And, and the fact that you guys are literally, you know, the top one percenters are pouring into who is is pretty stinking phenomenal.
00;16;27;02 - 00;16;45;10
Speaker 1
And, you I'm hooked. So, I don't know, LG might need to brush me away, but, I see more Northwood University gear in my future. Julia. Julia. Julia. Julia. Julia. Julia. Julia. Julia. Julia.
00;16;45;12 - 00;16;45;26
Speaker 2
Yeah.
00;16;45;28 - 00;16;54;12
Speaker 1
Automotive marketing talk. Now. What year? So tell our listeners what year you again. I forgot to write that down. Or I can't read my own writing.
00;16;54;14 - 00;16;59;17
Speaker 3
Cause I'm in my third year, so I'm a junior here. So sorry. One more year Laughs.
00;16;59;19 - 00;17;18;19
Speaker 1
Awesome. Awesome. And you said you want to get into you aren't you're in marketing any like again. Same same question I asked Colin you know what are your thoughts. Where do you want to go obviously in marketing. Is it with you know, with a tier three company? Is it with the OEM? Is it on the dealer side?
00;17;18;19 - 00;17;24;18
Speaker 1
Like, what is your dream vision or is that already planned out? And I just missed it and didn't write that down either.
00;17;24;21 - 00;17;43;09
Speaker 3
And now that's a great question. I mean, honestly, I don't have like, you know, a certain sound plan. I think, you know, just like I'll just tell like a few moments ago, you miss every opportunity you don't take. So I have to, you know, stand up corporate side of things with the OEM. Like I will be just for the summer.
00;17;43;11 - 00;18;03;10
Speaker 3
So kind of just following that path and, you know, taking advantage of every opportunity, opportunity that comes my way. And, you know, I think about today and everything happens for a reason. So I believe that I'll ends up supposed to be one day, no matter of how I'm getting there. And I'll be great. I'm ready for it.
00;18;03;10 - 00;18;21;19
Speaker 3
I'm excited. And Juliette's really does it all. She is the finance planner as well, and she also does PR for the auto show. So she has she's I'm getting a lot of good experiential learning, but the marketing side of it and doing all that and, you know, making those connections and figuring out where she wants to pursue. Yeah.
00;18;21;21 - 00;18;38;18
Speaker 3
Yeah. So and you know, a lot of as well I mean that's such a great experience. And you meet so many, you know, automotive professionals, I mean even just in a classroom. So we have so many guest speakers and the connections that are just so amazing that you really are.
00;18;38;20 - 00;18;57;09
Speaker 1
It's it is truly amazing. I mean, that's why I want to do everything I can, to to shout it from the mountaintops because quite frankly, you know, it's, you know, on the other side, you know, I'm a long way from college, but at the same time, you know, it's very difficult for companies to find good humans. I mean, I'm just telling you it is.
00;18;57;11 - 00;19;32;08
Speaker 1
And, and, you know, most people, unfortunately, in every industry, but especially automotive, y'all, I'm just telling you, I go from dealership to dealership to dealership, and when I say these words out of my mouth, head start to nod. And it's the top 1%, the the Fletcher Jones of the world that are hungry and they're the best at what they do and the biggest Mercedes store and the biggest Audi store and everything they do, they're constantly trying to get better versus the person that, let's just say, is a several tiers down, that they're the smartest person in the room.
00;19;32;12 - 00;19;54;20
Speaker 1
But here's the thing. Most people in this industry go to work to wait. They go to work to work. They salespeople go in smoke and joke in rive at 850, you know, by 915, after they scroll through their phone, what are we going to do for lunch? They go to work to wait, and it's amazing how lucky you become when you just work.
00;19;54;22 - 00;20;19;03
Speaker 1
When you just work, it's absolutely phenomenal. Joy, I'm extremely excited, to watch your career path, I can't wait. We'll get on here, you know, next semester, possibly do this again, maybe do an update. But I am extremely excited to have a front row seat now, two here. I have courtside tickets to your journey.
00;20;19;05 - 00;20;44;01
Speaker 1
And, chase. Chase, you're not. You're not getting off the hook. Chase, chase. So, Penske, what an incredible organization. Great humans. Talk to us. Tell me, tell me. You know what? What made you decide, Penske? What inspires you? What is encouraging you about the next chapter of your life? Take us down that road a little bit.
00;20;44;03 - 00;21;04;13
Speaker 2
Yeah, absolutely. To, So I actually, work for a family owned dealer when I was in high school. I'm a Troy, and, we ended up getting fired by Husky, a couple years ago. And it's been such an amazing experience. You going from my own dealership and then getting to experience working for a lot of these dealer groups, in the country.
00;21;04;16 - 00;21;21;29
Speaker 2
And I met so many amazing people. It's kind of a lot like Northwood as well, through the corporation, because automotive is always just a hobby for me, you know, working for a dealership. It was just kind of like, you know, a part time job. You with your high school. And then once I started working for that and seeing all the frontiers of the automotive industry, I thought, you know what?
00;21;22;00 - 00;21;44;27
Speaker 2
I want to do this like for the rest of my life. I want this to be my career first, also in full paths, so you can go to the automotive history, especially with a big corporation like that, with finance, accounting and marketing and, all that stuff. So it is amazing. And their values really align with, the values of Northwood, which are a lot like Roger Hasler, as I say, as most famously equals results.
00;21;44;29 - 00;22;00;16
Speaker 2
And, that really works with the Northwood, the North. Right. Yeah. And, you know, you you get what you work for and like you say, Northwood students, we don't go to work today. We go to work to work. You. So, that's why I love that corporation. It's, It's amazing.
00;22;00;19 - 00;22;24;23
Speaker 1
Just just, I mean, seriously, just amazing humans and and people scratch their head. How is this? It's it's leadership. Leadership. And. Oh, by the way, it's leadership which which breeds culture. So that's phenomenal. Brooke, the amazing Brooke and the beautiful green shirt. The amazing, wonderful Brooke, talk to me. Brooke. I'm excited about watching you and, seeing your career.
00;22;24;23 - 00;22;31;19
Speaker 1
Talk to us a little bit about what excites you about the next step in where, you are about to go.
00;22;31;21 - 00;22;54;14
Speaker 3
Yeah. Of course. Tim, before we do that, I'd actually love to also highlight my time at Northwood. I have, thank you. I've had so many opportunities as a student here to not only be an ambassador to the university, but to be an ambassador of myself. I've learned a number of lessons from this man right here.
00;22;54;16 - 00;23;14;18
Speaker 3
But also from my peers as well, and even from my own self. Lots of self-reflection. Just understanding what it is that has taught me, but also by northwest leading me to, and so moving forward with that, I am very excited to be working for Nima. Which for those who don't know, is a Vehicle Suppliers association.
00;23;14;21 - 00;23;37;24
Speaker 3
And with my future role, working full time with them, I feel very honored to have this opportunity to work for them full time as an intern with them, since 2023, which, again, has been brought on by LG. Mr. Bright over here. But I am looking forward to, making headway within this for this amazing industry.
00;23;37;27 - 00;23;50;15
Speaker 3
And just learning from the best of the best, the industry leaders who have been a part of the automotive aftermarket industry, the automotive industry, for a number of years, and just just to learn from them and their, skills and abilities.
00;23;50;18 - 00;23;51;28
Speaker 1
That that's just.
00;23;52;00 - 00;23;52;22
Speaker 2
For.
00;23;52;24 - 00;23;56;25
Speaker 1
LG. It's almost like, you know, what you're doing.
00;23;56;28 - 00;24;06;17
Speaker 2
I think it might be the answer term because I don't know what I'm doing. I'll say yes to everything coming out. I just get some institute, got my back.
00;24;06;19 - 00;24;33;22
Speaker 1
You know, I also communicated this when when I was there, you know, a leader, and I. And I asked whether they did or not. I ask your students to write it down, but it's so evident here. A leader should not be judged on what they do, but what people do because of them. A leader should not be judged on what they do, but what people do because of them.
00;24;33;22 - 00;24;58;21
Speaker 1
And you have five great young, full of fire, students that, I'm assuming didn't just they weren't born that way. You know, maybe, maybe there's there's certain traits and certain things that we're born with. But we need people. We need coaches, y'all. We need coaches. I'm in Georgia so I can say, y'all, we need coaches in our lives to lift us up.
00;24;58;22 - 00;25;25;26
Speaker 1
Michael Jordan, he's the Goat, by the way. Don't give me that LeBron crap. Michael Jordan had a coach in fact loved his coach and left when his coach left. Like we all, no matter how good we are, never ever, ever, stop learning. You know, that's the tagline of this show is no one is smarter than everyone. When we when we think we've got it all figured out, that's when bad things happen.
00;25;25;26 - 00;25;55;04
Speaker 1
That's when pride. Pride and that's that's when we start falling off. So I want to encourage all of you, to continue to, no matter how successful you are, have a coach have somebody pouring into you. I want to open this one up, and we don't have a buzzer, but I want, If you're talking to a student in a in, this could be any of you guys just speak.
00;25;55;04 - 00;26;08;20
Speaker 1
But if you're talking to a high school student, that's. Can considering North. What what would you say to that student anyway?
00;26;08;22 - 00;26;09;19
Speaker 2
Okay. Go ahead.
00;26;09;21 - 00;26;10;02
Speaker 3
Yes.
00;26;10;02 - 00;26;40;17
Speaker 2
Okay. I'll say something, pretty quick. So I, I do too, regarding here at Northwood, because I had a really awesome tour guide my first year. He just he's really gave me the vision of what I have. And, two simple things, right? One is opportunity. Because the school provides so much, it's it's not just the, there's a certain level of prestige in terms of companies that look at Northwood, they like to hire from Northwood because they know that that pump out for students.
00;26;40;19 - 00;26;59;08
Speaker 2
But it's just the opportunity that's offered here on campus. Somebody was just saying the other day, we are such a treat to have, the president of the university, he's just outside shaking hands with students like he's walking on campus saying hello, and you just constantly surrounded by us. So, you know, there's there's, all levels of this university.
00;26;59;08 - 00;27;15;13
Speaker 2
You can speak to a student, you can go and you can start a new program. You started college. You got an idea. You can you can make it happen. It's not about what's the best route to get something done. So there's definitely opportunity for student. If you want to make something happen, you can have it here.
00;27;15;13 - 00;27;40;28
Speaker 2
And I think that's pretty extraordinary compared to many other schools. And that is thank you. And and then two is tools. Tools is huge. I think all of us are really fantastic relationship donors. We can start a conversation and immediately get somebody, into it. But at the same time, we also have ways to pilot and lead teaches emotional intelligence, critical thought.
00;27;41;05 - 00;27;56;12
Speaker 2
I'm not sure if that's there's I mean, I mean, a guy that's got many years in the game. We also have other professors that have a lot of experience in their own right. So they all speak to us on experience, give us just tools from their time and we practice some in real time environments like this right here.
00;27;56;15 - 00;28;04;11
Speaker 2
And, and it's something that any student coming to this school, can see the value in, afterwards.
00;28;04;13 - 00;28;17;07
Speaker 1
That's that's good stuff. Katrina, if you could go back as a senior self and talk to freshman self, what would you say?
00;28;17;09 - 00;28;36;22
Speaker 3
Keep doing what you're doing. Excel and put yourself in the right places. Be a staff student from day one. If you show up in an office, he will throw any opportunity at you, and then you just gotta follow through with it, as John, that you're good people and you're excelling in life and you're an excellent author.
00;28;36;22 - 00;29;06;06
Speaker 3
There's so many opportunities to, to grow and flourish at the school where you can be, you know, that big fish in this little pond at Northwood. And I think that's, you know, one of the greatest opportunities that the school offers. So just as a freshman, if I were to toss myself or if I were to go back then, guys, high school students, just knowing that those opportunities are there and you can you can really put yourself out there and sell in your career and, and make stuff happen.
00;29;06;08 - 00;29;24;23
Speaker 1
That that is absolutely amazing. Amazing. LG, I'm going to let you, land the plane and then I'm going to give some final thoughts and, and we'll go from there. What would you like to say to these students, to people that are that are, you know, it that you're the time is yours. We'll take a couple minutes.
00;29;24;26 - 00;29;32;20
Speaker 1
Whether it's people considering Northwood. What's happening there? Just the floor is yours.
00;29;32;22 - 00;29;59;06
Speaker 2
Thank you. Tim. All I would say is, as we've listened to this for the past half hour, you could see why Northwood is a special place. It's great to have the experience like that, but I tell the students all the time, you know what's coming. Looking for me? They're looking for you. And so I can spend a few minutes investing in your life, you know, to coach and council and just allow you to be who you are.
00;29;59;09 - 00;30;36;28
Speaker 2
I mean, really special knowledge for me. And it is, for me, the company looking to hire great folks who want bad results, get better teams. And for any students that are considering Northwood University, two can be like the students sitting here. You can have those wonderful experiences of one of them being you family. Yes. If you that person that likes energetic, enthusiastic, really cool experiences, then we would love to partner with you in the next three, 4 or 5 years of your life to help make some of those dreams come true.
00;30;37;01 - 00;30;58;22
Speaker 2
The final thing is, for them and for these students here, you get to meet wonderful people, like sometimes. And, I don't know how many of the students. And we had 50 students between two classes came up to me and said, can we have more inspirational messages like, you just always heard a little bit because I'm with them every day.
00;30;58;24 - 00;31;25;11
Speaker 2
But, so to know that we've got a, just a wonderful thought leader, a subject matter expert, and somebody willing to invest in inspire, that's meaningful for me. So that's the connection. That's the full circle is that, when we come together here in Midland, Michigan, amazing things can happen. It happens now. And it could happen in the future.
00;31;25;13 - 00;31;46;17
Speaker 2
We do a camp on campus, and for 14 to 17 year old students, we take those 50 students and just say, hey, let me want to be a designer or engineer manufacturing. Or maybe you want to bring it to life and imagine the future are some wonderful opportunities here, some wonderful relationships. So kind of thank you for what you do, every day.
00;31;46;24 - 00;32;06;26
Speaker 2
And, thank you. Not only that, you've heard me say, I mean, I know you have a day job that you do, wonderful things, but to to give back as you do. Your company has amazing scholarship here that makes it affordable for students. We can't say enough about our relationship. And, and the things that are being still talk to all of us.
00;32;06;26 - 00;32;29;05
Speaker 2
So, that's the way I would land the plane. I know that, I learned from the master, who does? Looks like every week. That the last thing and who aspect. But you all ought to be listening for ten thoughts. You want some inspiration? While you're working out, while you're walking, while you're meditating. Two thoughts.
00;32;29;07 - 00;32;54;00
Speaker 1
Say thank you. And thank you. Students. Thank you. Brooke, Chase, Julia, Katrina, and, Coleman. Listen, I am inspired like I am. I am truly encouraged by this next generation. I want to leave you with something. If I could pour into you just a little bit. I saw it, and I think it was an Instagram post or a it might have been on Facebook, I don't know.
00;32;54;00 - 00;33;17;24
Speaker 1
And there was a lady, I think she was in her 80s, and they were talking about what would you do if you could go back to your 20 year old self and it and what she said, it rocked me a little. So as you get ready to get out of school life into life, school, which it is, we're constantly learning.
00;33;17;26 - 00;33;38;24
Speaker 1
You know, this lady said, if I was to go back to my 20 year old self, I would stop saying, I can't wait until I can't wait until I get my driver's license. I can't wait until I get married. I can't wait till I get. And by the time you're my age, she said those where you're continually to wait for something else.
00;33;38;24 - 00;34;03;17
Speaker 1
Maybe it's a promotion, or maybe it's getting married. Or maybe it's, more money or you're constantly. There's nothing wrong with goals, but when you're not living like we talked to you when we were in the class just for today, making today the best it can. Making this podcast the best it can. The people around you pouring into others when you wake up.
00;34;03;17 - 00;34;31;01
Speaker 1
Don't worry about I can't wait until life will be so much easier. Until when this happens, life is between your ears and if you wake up grateful, if you charge the day just for today, treating people as though they're you're more that they are more important than you guys with the basic skills. How bright you are, how encouraging, how you've encouraged me.
00;34;31;04 - 00;34;51;00
Speaker 1
I've got my popcorn, I've got my court side seats. I'm going to be your. I am your biggest cheerleader. We are going to put a link, if you want more information on Northwood University and, the automotive program there, we are going to put a link at the bottom of this podcast, as always. Guys, this is nothing.
00;34;51;01 - 00;35;11;16
Speaker 1
I, I got a lot going on. I'm planes, trains and automobiles. I know a lot of you guys are, too, but, as we said, I'm on the back nine, and I want to pour into people. And hopefully this has made, a difference. But please, we are going to, put the link in there for the information about Northwood.
00;35;11;19 - 00;35;35;20
Speaker 1
